About

"Alone we are a drop in the ocean but together we are an ocean of drops!”

Welcome to the world of Emma Schermbrucker - surfer, artist, adventurer and ocean lover.

About Emma

My name is Emma Schermbrucker. I'm 14 years old and I love surfing — both longboarding and shortboarding. I also love travelling, exploring the outdoors, painting watercolours, hanging out with my friends, and taking my dog Mali on the SUP. I've even tried to get my cat Missy in the water!

I think I was on a surfboard before I could swim — I have surfing parents! My first proper stand-up wave was when I was five years old, and my mum and dad helped me fall in love with the ocean.

Surfing means freedom to me. I love paddling out, forgetting about everything else, and just playing in the waves. I also love the challenge of surfing in different conditions and pushing myself to improve.

One of my proudest surfing achievements was winning SA Champs in both shortboarding and longboarding in 2025, and being selected for the South African team to compete in El Salvador.

That's why I started this page — to help raise funds for the trip. I've created a watercolour card range and art series inspired by the sea and surf. I'm starting with a Sea Series and Surf Series, and I'm excited to keep creating more.

Giving Back

One of my role models is Carissa Moore. She is not only an incredible surfer, but also a kind-hearted and inspiring person who represents aloha in every way.

She has inspired me to be part of something bigger than myself. Through Surf Emporium and Cape Town Surf Riders, I would love to help encourage girls of all ages and backgrounds to get into the water. Surfing can change your life.

I am also deeply passionate about animals and my dream is to actually become a vet one day. So part of my fundraising for El Salvador will be to give back - I have chosen to donate 5% of what I raise to go to the animal shelter down the road from us in kommetjie called Tears. TEARS is a a non-profit dedicated to rescuing, treating, rehabilitating, and rehoming abused, neglected, and abandoned companion animals. They operate a veterinary clinic, mobile outreach units, and shelters serving the Western Cape’s South Peninsula.
